Legendary KISS guitarist Ace Frehley died from the head injuries sustained after an accidental fall in his home studio in September, a medical examiner confirms.
Frehley, known as Space Ace, was hospitalized and died October 16 after his family made the difficult decision to take the iconic rocker off life support, according to reports. He was 74.
A CT scan of Frehley's head revealed multiple contusions, bone fractures to the back of his skull, hemorrhages, and a subdural hematoma, with additional brushing found on his hip, thigh, and abdomen, according to a Morris County, New Jersey, medical examiner's report obtained by Rolling Stone.
The ME's report also noted that Frehley suffered a stroke and that doctors attempted a hemicraniectomy, a potentially life-saving procedure where a large portion of the skull is removed to alleviate pressure on the brain caused by swelling.

Born Paul Daniel Frehley on April 27, 1951, the Bronx musician helped launch KISS to international stardom, with the band selling more than 100 million records and spawning hits like "Rock and Roll All Nite" and "Detroit Rock City".
Prior to his death, Frehley and the original members of KISS were announced as honorees of the upcoming 48th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, scheduled to tape next month and air on CBS December 23.
Frehley will become only the third person to receive the honor posthumously, following The Eagles' Glenn Frey and The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh.
