Former Kraftwerk member tricked into having Daft Punk imposter on album

Wolfgang Flür, formerly of Kraftwerk, released a new album on March 28, entitled Times. The project is peppered with collaborations, with two songs, "Uber_All" and "Monday to the Moon," purportedly featuring Thomas Bangalter. Bangalter, if you're not familiar, was the "silver helmet" of the legendary electronic act Daft Punk. However, the owner of the Daft Punk Discord channel – considered to be the definitive outlet for official Daft Punk news – has confirmed that the real Bangalter had no involvement in the project.

The imposter, working under the pseudonym "Thomas Vangarde," reached out to Flür through Facebook a couple of years ago, expressing his love of Flür's Magazine 1 album from 2022. While it seems fishy that the low-profile Bangalter would use Facebook to contact anyone, the alternative moniker does, at least, seem appropriate: "Vangarde" is a stage name that Bangalter's father used.

Flür asked "Vangarde" to be on the album, which the imposter accepted. The two tracks he appears on also include work from New Order's bassist, Peter Hook. While the real Daft Punk luminary has worked on music since the duo parted ways in 2021, it bears little resemblance to the music Flür has produced on Times.
