Foo Fighters release Minor Threat cover 30 years in the making

After largely keeping a low profile in 2025, the Foo Fighters are back with a new release, taking things back to Dave Grohl's DC roots with a cover of Minor Threat's seminal track "I Don't Wanna Hear It."

Originally recorded in 1995 by the band, with Grohl finishing the vocals in 2025, the song hearkens back to the golden age of DC Hardcore, when Minor Threat was promoting Dischord release 003, the Minor Threat 7 inch in 198. The song actually adds seven seconds to the track's original 1:13 run time, providing fans a unique glimpse into what the Foos were up to 30 years ago and what they want to express now.

Born in Warren, Ohio, Grohl moved to Virginia as a child and became a fixture of the DC scene, playing in Scream from 1986-1990 before replacing Chad Channing as the drummer in Nirvana. Though his career took off in a way few could have imagined after the release of Nevermind, Grohl remained a fan of hardcore punk for years to come, with the band recording their version of the track in the same year they released their self-titled debut and the band finishing it now, 30 years later, as they prepare for what's next following the firing of Josh Freese.

What's next for the Foo Fighters? Nothing has been announced yet, but this release certainly has fans interested in what Grohl and company might have coming down the pipeline.
