FLAKE, the shoegazey project of Blake Loggans (get it? — BLAKE… FLAKE??), has announced his debut EP LAND OF THE USA, out October 23 via Santa Anna Records.
Alongside the announcement, Blake and his live band dropped a new single and music video for “COLD.” Sporting medium-length bleach-blonde hair à la Kurt Cobain, the video finds Blake and company thrashing in the back of a school bus, sunlight pouring in through the rear windows, washing the scene in a hazy glow that feels straight out of a Nirvana-era daydream. Watch below:
The grunge influence bleeds through in the reverb-heavy guitars, but the album leans more toward the ethereal, dreamlike textures of the modern shoegaze revival. Loggans had this to say about the record:
“This record came out of long nights and quiet mornings — the kind of spaces where you can hear the echoes of your own thoughts the loudest. It’s about the distance between the world you see and the world you feel.”
