FKA twigs shares release date and cover art for new album EUSEXUA; watch new music video for the title track

FKA twigs has unveiled the cover art and release date from her long-awaited forthcoming album, EUSEXUA, due on 24 January 2025, via Young Recordings. This is her first studio album since 2019’s MAGDALENE, and a follow-up to her 2022 mixtape CAPRISONGS. You can pre-order EUSEXUA here.

twigs shared some insight on the process and experience of making the album on her Instagram caption:

EUSEXUA has been my practice for the years that it has been in creation. it is my opus and truly feels like a pin at the centre of the core of my artist. EUSEXUA was birthed in chicken scratch, written on the back of my hand in a toilet at a rave in prague, ‘this room of fools WE MAKE SOMETHING TOGETHER’ and we do. we rave, we sweat, we kiss, we make love to the booming thud of culture.

The GRAMMY-nominated artist describes 'eusexua' as:

"A state of being. A feeling of momentary transcendence often evoked by art, music, sex, and unity. Eusexua can be followed by a state of bliss and feelings of limitless possibility. Also used to refer to: 'The pinnacle of Human Experience'."

The album's title track was released today. twigs co-produced it with Koreless and Eartheater, the latter of whom also provides backing vocals on the song. Additionally, a new music video for the song - directed by Jordan Hemingway - has been released. The video starts with an intro set in an office before moving on to an eccentric dance choreography while listening to a separate new percussion-laden song; after that, the "eusexia" single begins.

A trailer for the record was released on 4 September, providing numerous descriptions as to what 'eusexua' means to different people. "Eusexua is the moment right before an orgasm" says one of the individuals.

A press release accompanying the announcement of the album shines more definitions to this newly created word:

"Eusexua is melding into one being with the perfect stranger you're making out with. Eusexua is losing track of time while losing yourself on the dance floor. Eusexua is the rush of inspiration that accompanies the birth of an idea. Eusexua can be many things to many people."

Eusexua is indeed a "nebulous concept, ever-evolving with those who experience it. But it is united through any moment in which we are fully embodying ourselves, present in the moment, disconnected from technology, synthesized with those around us," the press release expands.

It's also stated that "twigs cites her late nights in the underground techno scene of Prague while shooting The Crow as the main inspiration for the project." twigs plays the role of Shelly in The Crow, a film based on the novel of the same name, which hit theatres a few weeks ago on 30 August. She plans to star in more films next year: “i’ve already shot mother mary and have almost finished carpenters son” she replied on her discord server, “so next year there will be more films for twiglets.”

twigs recently moved to Prague, where she "fell in love with techno," although "the album isn’t techno but the spirit is there fr" she clarifies on her discord message.

The press releases announces as well a new art piece by twigs that launches today:

"[...] the official unveiling of a major new work of art by twigs at Sotheby's, London running from today through the 26th of September. Staged over two weeks at Sotheby's New Bond Street galleries, The Eleven, will bring twigs' fiercely independent creative vision to the forefront of the contemporary art scene. The Eleven, is a durational artwork, conceived by twigs and performed by a rotating group of eleven 'movers.' The piece, developed by twigs over many months, is a physical and artistic quest for self-healing, rooted - in part - in her decades spent in movement practice, somatic healing technique and by implementing conscious action on repeat."

The multi-disciplinary artist "will participate along with a changing cast of special guests who will embody the method, and record in real time the changes they feel in their mind and body."

She first previewed EUSEXIA at a New York Listening Party. She also performed new material at Vogue World: London and Valentino L’École.
