Klara Söderberg of sister duo First Aid Kit will perform a series of shows in Stockholm celebrating the life and artistry of legendary singer/songwriter (and occasional actor) Tom Waits, who turns 75 in December.
Performances of The Piano Has Been Drinking, titled after a song from Waits’ 1976 album Small Change, will take place over five dates this autumn at Swedish national theatre Dramaten in Stockholm, beginning 20 September.
Söderberg will be joined by actors from Dramaten and, at select performances, Swedish Grammi-winning singer/songwriter Sarah Klang (25 and 27 September) and former Blood, Sweat & Tears member Georg 'Jojje' Wadenius (11 and 12 October).
The Piano Has Been Drinking will be directed by Nina Zanjani and conducted by Sebastian Ring. The pair previously worked with First Aid Kit on their acclaimed 2017 tribute shows to Leonard Cohen, Who By Fire. A double live album of the shows was released in 2021.
Earlier this year, Söderberg made her musical theatre debut playing the lead role of Sheila in a Swedish production of Hair. Her sister Johanna welcomed a second child in March.
The last First Aid Kit album was 2022's Palomino.
