Fetty Wap's sister requests pardon for drug charges

New Jersey artist Fetty Wap's sister, Divinity Maxwell-Butts, has made a plea to free her brother following his six year prison sentence for drug charges. Wap began serving his sentence in 2023, although he has been incarcerated since 2021.

A rumor has circulated recently that he was going to be released early, but this has since been debunked.

She posted to ,'s Instagram:

April is Second Chance Month—a time to recognize that people deserve redemption, not just punishment. My brother has taken responsibility and served over half his sentence for a nonviolent offense. He is scheduled to be released in 2027, but justice should also mean mercy. His sentence should be commuted so he can come home to his family, his children, and his purpose. It’s time. #PardonFetty #SecondChanceMonth #BringHimHome

The "My Way" rapper was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. Prosecutors attempted to give him a longer sentence, citing that he was using his platform to "glamorize the drug trade" while profiting off his music.

He was arrested in October 2021 at New York's Citi Field while preparing to hit the stage for Rolling Loud. Police recovered 16 kilograms of cocaine, 2 kilograms of heroin, fentanyl pills, two 9mm handguns, a rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, a .40 caliber pistol, ammunition, and $1.5 million in cash.
