17 years after Fender gave Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore signature Jazzmasters, the corporation has finally given the third member of Sonic Youth's six-string attack, Kim Gordon, a namesake guitar of her own, too.
Officially dubbed the Fender Limited Edition Kim Gordon Jazzmaster Guitar, the guitar forgoes the traditional rhythm circuit and bridge pickup fans expect from the instrument, opting instead for a Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 humbucker in the treble position and a matching headstock to complete the punk aesthetic.
Speaking to Fender about the guitar, Gordon noted the importance of creating a guitar she could play right into an amp.
“One thing that's great about Jazzmasters is if you have a guitar that sounds good by just plugging it into an amplifier, it doesn't need effects or anything,” Gordon said.
Announcing the guitar with a special video on Fender's social media accounts, where the 73-year-old puts it through the paces with her collection of effects pedals on stage before leaving fans with a simple message about music: it's about the ride.
The Fender Limited Edition Kim Gordon Jazzmaster Guitar is officially available to buy at all major Fender dealerships with a retail price of $1,349.99.
