Nearing the end his Mahashmashana Tour's winter leg, Father John Misty took to the stage at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for the televised debut of his previously unreleased song, "The Dead Mouse One".

Josh Tillman only once performed the acoustic track at a smaller show in Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA, in December 2023, with a bootleg of this first version available through his Bandcamp. Last night's show marks the song's debut to a wider audience, and Tillman's second appearance on The Late Show following a 2016 performance of "Holy Shit" off of his 2015 album, I Love You, Honeybear.

The song – which Tillman simply describes as "about a mouse who died" – did not appear on his latest album Mahasmashana. The performance takes full advantage of the Ed Sullivan Theater's ambiance. Watch it right here:

The Mahashmashana Tour caps off the first leg of its North American run in Washington, DC on March 1st, before hopping over to Europe and the UK. A second round of stateside shows kick off in Shelburne, VT and will feature Lucinda Williams and Hamilton Leithauser. The world tour will once again bounce back to Ireland and the UK, with a fitting grand finale at the End of the Road Festival in Dorset.
