Joseph Antonio Cartagena, more commonly known by his stage name Fat Joe, is facing a lawsuit against him by his former hype man, Terrance "T.A." Dixon.
T.A. claims that Fat Joe engaged in "coercive labor exploitation, financial fraud, sexual manipulation, violent intimidation, and psychological coercion," which resulted in fame and fortune. At the same time, Dixon's artistic contributions were erased. He is suing for $20 million in damages.
As Fat Joe's hype man for 16 years, Dixon accompanied him on stage to maintain crowd energy and heighten the performance, and contributed backing vocals on hits such as "Congratulations" and "Money Over Bitches".
Dixon's representation, Tyrone Blackburn, is also involved in the ongoing case against Sean "Diddy" Combs.
T.A. alleges that he was forced "into humiliating situations, including sex acts performed under duress and surveillance, accompanied by threats of abandonment in foreign countries if [he] refused compliance." The suit claims he "did not willingly consent to participate in these acts; instead, Plaintiff submitted solely out of fear of immediate retaliation, which Defendant repeatedly demonstrated would include financial punishment, professional sabotage, abandonment in foreign countries, or physical harm."
But the most shocking allegation is that T.A. "personally witnessed [Fat Joe] engage in sexual relations with children who were fifteen and sixteen years old." He lists three Jane Does, including one who, "in exchange for cash, clothing, and payment of her cell phone bill … would [perform] oral sex and other sexual acts." Fat Joe began seeing another Jane Doe "when she was 15 years old after a concert overseas. Defendant flew Minor Doe 2 to New York City and Miami, Florida, on multiple occasions. Due to Minor Doe 2’s body being adolescent and not fully formed, Defendant paid for her to get a Brazilian Butt Lift. Minor Doe 2 eventually left Defendant and is now married to a professional athlete."
Fat Joe is represented by Joe Tacopina, a celebrity criminal defense attorney who has previously represented Michael Jackson and Donald Trump. He responded that "the lawsuit filed by Tyrone Blackburn and Terrance Dixon is a blatant act of retaliation, a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the civil suit we filed first," due to Dixon posting details on social media, "which exposed their coordinated scheme to extort Mr. Cartagena through lies, threats, and manufactured allegations."
The suit also names Jay-Z's Roc Nation, alleging that they were aware and actively concealed and manipulated Dixon's creative contributions in order to stifle royalties. They allegedly did so by committing fraud schemes such as lowering his wages, inflating his tax burden, and hiding his unpaid labor.
