Fang Island announces full-discography box set and video for final song, "Starquake"

In one last hurrah for a band that describes it’s music as “everyone high-fiving everyone”, Fang Island has released the video for their final single, "Starquake". The band also announced a new limited-edition box set containing their full discography, complete with several previously unreleased tracks.

Brooklyn-based Fang Island began their music career in Providence, Rhode Island, where they initially wrote "Starquake" while attending the Rhode Island School of Design. Though recorded in 2014 in a single unedited take, the track was only ever released via flexi disc until today. "Starquake" is a fitting finish to the band’s journey - guitarist Jason Bartell explained its vibe in vivid detail via Instagram:

“Despite its foreboding introduction, the track settles into a positive if frantic loop, orbiting a bolstering and reliable core. With each rotation another hooky adornment is affixed, elongating and warping the orbit until it can no longer maintain its shape, hurtling into the deep black unknown of space, only to find a harmonious new resting place.”

Along with the release of the "Starquake" video came an announcement of a new box set, containing everything the band has recorded. Doesn’t Exist II: The Complete Recordings will be released on December 13th, 2024 and is available for pre-order through the independent record label Joyful Noise.

The compilation contains remastered reissues of their Fang Island and Major LPs, as well as a 12” record containing all of their EPs: Day of the Great Leap, Sky Gardens, and demos for their first release, Doesn’t Exist. The set also comes with a 7” recording of their singles "Starquake" and "Patterns on the Wall" (featuring Andrew W.K.). The packaging itself is a hand-crafted, laser-etched wooden box complete with a full-sized poster, all of which comes in limited quantities, so fans should hit up that pre-order link ASAP.
