Erykah Badu and the Alchemist have spent more than a year slowly letting details about their collaborative album escape into the wild. Two days before its arrival, the mystery box is finally open.

The pair have officially announced Before the World Blows: The Abi and Alan Experiment, out this Fridat, August 28 via Young and Control Freaq Records.

The 16-track album features a dinner-party guest list that includes Westside Gunn, Steve Lacy, Thundercat, Earl Sweatshirt, Kamasi Washington, DRAM, Joi, and DJ Creole Princess.

The title also clears up a little confusion. Last year, the Alchemist, born Alan Maman, referred to the project as Abi & Alan, but subsequent promotion conspicuously went without an album name. Turns out Abi (Erykah's middle name) and Alan never disappeared.

Badu and the Alchemist built the album over 18 months of sessions in Dallas and Los Angeles. The album includes the previously released “Next 2 U” and “Witch Doctor.” The latter arrived recently with a 10-minute visual that revisits Badu’s infamous 2010 “Window Seat” video.

Naturally, Badu is not ending the rollout with only a normal preorder link. Mysterious “One More Song…” posters have appeared in cities including New York, London, Paris, Sydney, and Melbourne, leading fans toward an online puzzle and something called the Badu Burner Phone. Badu and the Alchemist will take the experiment on the road next month for a North American tour.
