Painter, curator, musician, and lately a poet, Emma Ruth Rundle has no shortage of talent. Fresh off her latest European tour, the Portland, OR-based artist has announced the 11 February release of her debut poetry book The Bella Vista. If you're quick, you can also get your hands on a limited first-edition vinyl of readings from the book, set to original piano sketches in the style of poet and avant-garde composer Harold Budd, whose 2003 album La Bella Vista is referenced in the title.
Described by publishers Unnamed Press as "a concept album, an addiction memoir, a family tree, and a love letter all at once – to music, mistakes, and womanhood; to cross-country drives and other artists and the long road to finding oneself," The Bella Vista follows Rundle's previously published work in poetry journal Heartworm Reader and last year's Sad Happens anthology, edited by The Creative Independent's Brandon Stosuy.

Expressing what Rundle calls "the tenderness and brutality of romantic love," the poems in The Bella Vista are presented in the order they were written as she travelled between tour locations, and are said to "follow a relationship from its enthralling genesis through its twisted convulsions and the devastation of its dissolution; culminating, eventually, with a sort of peace."
Says Rundle in a press release:
“Written on the road over the course of a year, ‘The Bella Vista’ is equal parts travel-log, love story and journal of dark existential reflection. It is what I have spent the last two years of my creative life working on and I am both relieved and excited to finally be sharing it.”

Last year, Rundle paired with documentary maker Geert Braekers for the 16-minute film All I Know of Love, which featured some of her poems, a live performance of her song "Dancing Man", and some entertaining vocal warm-ups. Watch it below:
Rundle next heads out on the road in October for an extensive US tour that runs through to mid-December, with support from Ora Cogan and Storefront Church at various shows. Full details below:
