‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Challengers’ win at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards

Hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, the 82nd Golden Globes awarded the best films and television programs of 2024. The most nominated film of the evening, musical Emilia Pérez, won four of their 10 nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Emilia Pérez also won Best Original Song, for “El Mal,” written by Camille and Clément Ducol, and performed by Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofia Gascón, and Camille. The other nominees included “Mi Camino” (Emilia Pérez),“Compress/Repress” (Challengers), “Beautiful That Way” (The Last Showgirl), “Forbidden Road” (Better Man), and “Kiss the Sky” (The Wild Robot).

Early on in the ceremony, Zoe Saldaña won a her first Golden Globe, for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Later, director Jacques Audiard accepted the award for Best Foreign Language Film for the musical.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won for Best Original Score for their work on Luca Guadagnino's Challengers. “The music never felt like a safe choice, but it always felt like the right one,” Ross said in his acceptance speech. “To be honest, we always thought we’d get the call, ‘Can you just turn it down a little?’ But it never came, and here we are.”

Volker Bertelmann (Conclave), Daniel Blumberg (The Brutalist), Kris Bowers (The Wild Robot), Clément Ducol and Camille (Emilia Pérez), and Hans Zimmer (Dune: Part Two) were nominated in the category alongside the duo.

The 2024 film adaptation of the musical Wicked was nominated for four awards, winning one for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Musical or Comedy and Supporting Actress, respectively.

While the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown was nominated for two awards, (Best Lead Actor in a Drama for Timothée Chalamet and Best Motion Picture – Drama), they lost out to The Brutalist in both categories, with Adrien Brody winning for his performance in The Brutalist.

Both Challengers, Emilia Pérez, and Wicked have all made the shortlists at the Oscars for Best Original Score, with the former two also getting in for Best Original Song. Final nominations will be announced on January 17.
