Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist Eiko Ishibashi – known most recently for her impressive scores for Ryusuke Hamaguchi's Drive My Car and Evil Does Not Exist – has announced a new album Antigone, out March 28th via Drag City. She also has a couple live dates lined up for March.
The album – Ishibashi's first official solo outing since 2018's The Dream My Bones Dream – shows off the artists more pop-leaning, singer-songwriter side. Case in point with first taste "Coma", a soothing, ethereal soft pop gem that swerves like a breeze through the leaves.

Next to her acclaimed film score work, Ishibashi has kept busy the past few years with some freewheeling recordings. In 2022, she released a fun off-the-cuff album For McCoy, a musical tribute to Sam Waterston's iconic Law & Order-character. She formed a band called Kafka's Ibiki with frequent collaborators Jim O' Rourke and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, releasing the live album Shiminkai last month.
Yamamoto and O'Rourke also contribute to Antigone, specifically on synths and drums, respectively. Bassist Marty Holoubek, Norwegian accordionist Kalle Moberg, vocalist ermhoi, sax player Kei Matsumaru, and percussionist Joe Talia also play on the record.
