Du Blonde launches new album 'Sniff More Gritty' with time-jumping video for "TV Star"

Following April's Baby Forever two-track single and last month's "Blame", Beth Jeans Houghton has announced that her fourth Du Blonde album Sniff More Gritty will arrive 1 November on her own Daemon T.V label.

Inspired by the freedom of self-engineering and self-producing her last album, 2021's Homecoming – which she also self-released – the new sonic world of Du Blonde goes even bigger and more unhinged. Described as "a one-man pantomime of glam-rock, punk, and a single, acrylic nail adorned middle finger," Sniff More Gritty promises to be the most colourful incarnation of Du Blonde to date.

"I feel like a lot of the new album swings between characters and mindsets," says Du Blonde in a press release, "and being able to play with the more unhinged sides of my personality both lyrically and aesthetically has been really freeing and fun."

The 12-track album was almost entirely performed, engineered and produced by Du Blonde, with additional mixing by Sam Grant of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs. Homecoming drummer Chris McManus contributes live drums. There are "unique collaborations" with Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace ("Solitary Individual") and Skunk Anansie's Skin ("Next Big Thing"). Maxïmo Park’s Paul Smith and The Futureheads’ Ross Millard both appear on penultimate track "Radio Jesus".

Du Blonde had this to say about the track:

It's the story of who somebody was before and after fame, and the sadness of losing the good person they used to be. The music video has been ten years in the making. It was important to me to paint a picture of the history of the two people in the song so we used footage of actor and musician Pete Chekvala and myself shot a decade ago in Los Angeles to depict the purity and innocence of the early years, mixed with newer, more intense footage. Although I’m acting in the early clips, I can see even now how much softer I was and how much I still believed in the magic of people.

Sniff More Gritty tracklist:

1. Perfect
2. Dollar Coffee
3. Solitary Individual
4. TV Star
5. Out Of A Million
6. ICU
7. Blame
