Dolly Parton has released a heartfelt new song, "If You Hadn't Been There", dedicated to her late husband, Carl Dean, just a few days after his passing.
Listen to the single below.
The song was accompanied by a touching Instagram post featuring the single’s artwork, which shows a young Dolly embracing her husband. The caption reads:
I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old. We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together. Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him.
The song is a classic acoustic ballad, featuring twangy guitars and melodic strings, as Dolly delivers poignant and emotionally resonant lyrics. In the chorus, she sings, "I wouldn't be here / If you hadn't been there".
Dean died on March 3, and yesterday, March 6, Dolly shared her first public statement since his passing, writing:
"He is in God’s arms now and I am okay with that. I will always love you".
