Legendary country singer Dolly Parton has died the age of 80.

Parton, best known for songs such as "Jolene" and 9-5," was a prolific artist in country music whose work has been covered by several artists, and who had songs in movies such as The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Sweet Home Alabama.

Born on January 19, 1946, Parton grew up in Pittman Center, Tennessee being the fourth of twelve children. She began her career singing on local radio and television stations in Tennessee. Her career started to take off when she signed with Monument Records at the age of 19.

From there, she would go on to release nearly 50 studio albums throughout her career. Parton also won 11 Grammys, an Emmy, garnered multiple Oscar nominations, and several other awards. She even had a theme park in Tennessee named Dollywood, which is still a popular tourist attraction.

In a statement released by her nephew Brin Seaver, he said, “It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”
