On October 16, 2024, pop singer and former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne (31), passed away in an unfortunate collapse from an apartment balcony in Buenos Aires. After an autopsy revealed that the popstar suffered multiple injuries and internal bleeding, the body was released by Argentinian authorities to his family and shortly flown back to the UK.
In the weeks following Payne's passing, fans from around the globe have mourned the sudden loss Payne. Shared grief and speculation amongst the fans was omnipresent, as many have been raising questions of what caused this accident.
The weekend after his death, hundreds of fans gathered around Hyde Park in London, remembering the life of the late singer with group sing-a-longs and a candlelit vigil.
The four remaining members of One Direction came fourth to social media in a joint statement, opening up about their grief in the wake of this unprecedented loss. Member Zayn Malik even announced that he'll be postponing his tour to take time off to grieve.
As stated by The Sun, Payne's funeral will be held in the Home Counties near London on Wednesday, November 20. The funeral, organized by Paynes parents, Geoff and Karen, will be a private gathering. And while the details of the attendance haven't been fully disclosed, the service will be joined by Payne's friends, family, and his four One Direction counterparts.
However, a source revealed that his former manager, Roger Nores, will not be in attendance at the ceremony. "Liam's family want his funeral to go off without a hitch and right now opinions are strained when it comes to Roger."
Nores was in Payne's hotel room the night of the incident and is currently at the center of the ongoing investigation in Argentina, with many people not knowing they reconnected before the trip.
With the reports of the investigation being put on temporary hold and the three potential suspects still under questioning, the funeral promises to be the peaceful send-off that Payne deserves. And with a short, focused guest-list, Payne's memory will be cherished privately and peacefully around his closest peers.
