There's never been a time when David Byrne was not incredibly cool. But it never hurts when a legendary veteran gets all buddy-buddy with the current crop of icons, especially when they're both A-list as hell.
He first tipped his hat to pop's ruling class by exchanging cover tunes with Hayley Williams — she did Talking Heads' "Burning Down the House" for A24's Stop Making Sense tribute album Everyone's Getting Involved, and he returned the favor by covering Paramore's very Talking Heads-influenced 2017 single "Hard Times", not just as a one-off but also part of his awesome 2025 tour setlist.
Last year, Olivia Rodrigo brought Byrne onstage to do "Burning Down the House" themselves at Governors Ball (see photo above) and now he's returning that favor, too: Today marks the fifth anniversary of Rodrigo's epic debut single "drivers license," a Hot 100 chart-topper that made her an instant household name, and Byrne's just released his own faithful, quite beautiful version of that.
This is a good omen for anyone excited for Rodrigo's third album rollout to begin any day now. Listen to Byrne's "drivers license" cover below.
