Radio's favorite rock band Foo Fighters have started a cycle for their upcoming album, Your Favorite Toy. Frontman Dave Grohl appeared on Zane Lowe's Apple Music program to discuss the project, and finally offered some insight regarding Josh Freese's departure from the band, which came as a shock to many.

"...continuing after Taylor was really complicated, not just for us, but for any drummer that was going to come in [and] fill his shoes," Grohl told Lowe. "As a band, we talked about what to do next, a new direction."

"We called, as a band, all of us called, it wasn't just me. Basically, we called Josh, and were like, 'Hey man, that was awesome. That was such a blast, thank you so much, but we are going to move on and find another drummer.'"

Grohl then mentioned something Freese had said in the wake of the firing: "I think Josh said it best when he said that he didn’t feel our music really resonated with him, and that's really important."

The Fighters of Foo replaced Freese with Rubin, which, due to certain circumstances with Nine Inch Nails, became an athlete-like swap.
