Sometimes when two musical experimenters make a record together, it just feels like it makes sense. So is the case with saxophonist Colin Stetson and bagpiper Brìghde Chaimbeul, who have joined forces for a new record entitled All the Light in the World, out on September 11 via Envision Records.

They've also shared a new track, "Dirt Dance," which you can hear below:

Stetson has been very busy in recent years. Beyond his many solo LPs (including 2024's The Love It Took to Leave You), he has done several film scores (Herditary, The Menu), as well as many other collaborations (like Nethering, with Greg Fox and Trevor Dunn, from just earlier this year).

Chaimbeul – who specializes in the traditional Great Highland bagpipe as well as Scottish smallpipes – has kept rather prolific as well. In addition to many featured parts playing on other people's songs (such as on Caroline Polachek's "Blood and Butter" or Julia Holter's Aviary), she has put out a handful of solo records, including last year's Sunwise.

The pair of sonic tinkerers – who both spend much of their time exploring the limits of their instruments with virtuosic playing, composition, and recording – have actually worked on a record together before: Carry Them With Us, from 2023, credited to Chaimbeul but featuring some work from Stetson.

Now, All the Light in the World is the first time the two are sharing top billing on an album, and each song has been written, performed, and produced by the duo.
