Cola announce new album 'Cost of Living Adjustment', share new song "Hedgesitting"

Montreal-based art punk trio Cola — Tim Darcy (vocals/guitar), Ben Stidworthy (bass), and Evan Cartwright (drums) — have announced new album Cost of Living Adjustment, out May 8th via Fire Talk Records

The album's lead single is called "Hedgesitting", and you can watch the music video – directed by Kristina Pederson – below:

Cost of Living Adjustment marks a more "maximalist" shift from Cola's angular songwriting instincts, putting a stronger emphasis on melody. A lot of the songs came together with each band member separately adding arrangements and parts, buying into a conversational writing and production process. "Hedgesitting” was an exemplar for this method, starting out with chords that Darcy had sent, expanded with input from the other two members, with Stidworthy remixing it right before heading into the studio – an intuitive division of labor.

Cola was formed after Darcy and Stidworthy's previous outfit Ought disbanded. Since forming the band with drummer Evan Cartwright, they've released the albums Deep In View (2024) and The Gloss (2024), with Cost of Living Adjustment becoming the third album installment of the project.
