Circle Jerks frontman Keith Morris addressed the crowd at Coachella on Sunday after performing their 1983 track “Coup D’Etat”, clarifying that the song’s closing line — “kill all” — isn’t an incitement.

“That’s a pretty fucking ugly statement… In ugly times,” Morris said. “Do not think that we encourage that.” Instead, he joked, “What we do encourage — what would be totally fucking happening — would be an army of Luigis,” referencing Luigi Mangione, the suspect charged in the 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Morris also noted a personal rift with his sister over her support for Donald Trump, describing her views as “white Christian nationalist.”

Circle Jerks were one of several Coachella acts to make political statements over the weekend. Nicolas Jaar (Darkside) spoke onstage about pro-Palestine activist Mahmoud Khalil. Bernie Sanders introduced Clairo, backing her stance on human rights. Irish trio Kneecap led a crowd chant against Margaret Thatcher, which was reportedly cut from Coachella’s livestream. Green Day snuck a lyric change into “Jesus Of Suburbia,” singing: “Running away from pain like the kids from Palestine.”
