Following the two singles "The Dark" and "Death is Not the End," Chelsea Wolfe has announced the August 21 release of her ninth studio album, The Dark (Loma Vista Recordings), together with a third song "Cold," out now.

Wolfe's trademark heaviness remains on The Dark, but it comes in different clothes this time around. Working with co-producer Jennifer Decilveo, Wolfe introduces a cleaner, sharper sound that she says was shaped by sobriety and deep self-examination.

“The ghosts are haunted by the living just as much as the living are haunted by the ghosts,” she writes in a press release, adding:

“On this album, I’m not pointing the finger at anyone. I’m taking responsibility. Someone who may have been a toxic presence in my life...maybe I was bad for them, too. It’s OK to move away from these types of connections that only seem to cause confusion for both parties, after a long stretch of trying to work it out.”

Guest musicians on The Dark include drummer Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam, Tori Amos), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), and Nine Inch Nails collaborators Robin Finch and Justin Meldal-Johnsen.

Wolfe will debut the new songs live at a special album launch show at London's The Dome on August 18, before headlining the first night of ArcTangent Festival just outside of Bristol on August 20.

An extensive fall-through-winter tour kicks off in San Francisco on September 16 and continue across North America and Europe through to mid-December.
