Charli XCX starring in, producing upcoming film by ‘Audition’ director Takashi Miike

Takashi Miike - the Japanese filmmaker behind over one hundred movies including Audition and Ichi the Killer - is joining forces with Charli XCX for his latest project. The British singer-songwriter will take on both acting and production roles for the film through her own company, Studio365

The artist behind TheNeedleDrop’s Best Album of 2024, Brat, (and its subsequent cultural takeover) is slated to have quite a bit of work ahead of her involving the currently untitled film. It follows previous acting gigs, including her work on A24’s The Moment, directed by filmmaker and scriptwriter Aidan Zamiri. Writer Ross Evans of How To Save a Marriage has penned the script for the upcoming Charli-Miike collaboration.

Though Miike is primarily known in the West for his (particularly violent) horror films, his full portfolio extends well into other genres, making it currently unclear as to what exactly this upcoming movie will entail. Considering his most recent project is Nyaight of the Living Cat - an animated feature about a virus that turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat - it’s not exactly safe to guess what’s in store. However, given Charli XCX’s role in Legendary Entertainment’s remake of the  cult-classic horror film Faces of Death (despite its current place in distribution hell, having still gone unreleased as of April 2025), it might be a good bet that this next film with Miike will appeal to fans of the genre.

Charli already has plenty of experience working with directors, with aforementioned A24 collaborator Zamiri having also shot her video for Guess. Check out their work below, and stay tuned for more details involving her project with Takashi Miike.
