Charli XCX and John Cale team up for new 'Wuthering Heights' song

Every once in a while, a song collaboration just hits you out of left field. Who would've thought that Velvet Underground legend John Cale would join forces with Charli XCX?

Their new single, "House", is out now. It's the first taste of Charli's album written for upcoming film Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell.

You can watch the music video for "House", directed by Mitch Ryan, below. The film is set to release on Valentine's Day 2026.

It turns out that the Brat icon got inspired to work with Cale after watching Todd Haynes's documentary on the Underground. Cale's descriptor of the band's music, ("elegant and brutal") stuck with Ms. XCX.

She and Cale "got connected, we spoke on the phone and wow...that voice, so elegant, so brutal," Charli explained on X. "I sent him some songs and we started talking specifically about House. We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do."
