Chappell Roan leaves Wasserman agency roster amid Epstein ties

Earlier this evening, pop singer-songwriter Chappell Roan has announced her deliberate departure from the Wasserman agency. The talent agency's namesake founder and CEO Casey Wasserman has recently been found in the latest release of Epstein files by the US Department of Justice.

Wasserman's involvement in said files was due to email corespondance with Ghislane Maxwell, which were sexual in nature. “I think of you all the time. So, what do I have to do to see you in a tight leather outfit?” Wasserman writes in one email to Maxwell. Several clients of Wasserman-employed agents, including Best Coast, Wednesday, Water From Your Eyes, Beach Bunny, and now Roan, have expressed their dissent of Casey Wasserman's actions and are seeking options to leave the agency's roster. Roan, whose departure from the agency is effective immediately, posted the following statement to her Instagram story:

As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman.

I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well. No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values.

I have deep respect and appreciation for the agents and staff who work tirelessly for their artists and I refuse to passively stand by. Artists deserve representation that aligns with their values and supports their safety and dignity. This decision reflects my belief that meaningful change in our industry requires accountability and leadership that earns trust.

Wasserman, who is currently in Italy with the Olympics, is said to be meeting with top executives at the company later this week to determine a course of action. He is chairman of the organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where he is also facing pressure to step down. This has created a complicated issue for the agents employed by Wasserman, many of whom are under contract. The band Wednesday shared in their statement today, "It’s also important that we acknowledge the team of people we work with at the Wasserman agency as decent and trustworthy people with whom we’ve worked several years dating back to a time prior to their connection with Wasserman.”

This is the second sex scandal to follow Casey Wasserman, as a report released in 2024 accused Wasserman of having “serial” affairs with junior employees over many years, which resulted in pop star Billie Eilish leaving the agency. It is also worth noting the long-running sports division of the Wasserman agency is seemingly unaffected at this time.

This is a developing story, check back for more updates as details continue to surface.
