Chappell Roan has spent much of her short yet meteoric rise to fame championing the rights of queer and trans people. Songs like "Pink Pony Club" from her beloved debut album Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess have struck a chord for members of these communities looking to find love, belonging and hope.
Putting her money where her mouth is, Chappell took to Instagram earlier today to announce her new non-profit, The Midwest Princess Project. According to their website, the organization is aimed to "uplift trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities through action, care, and connection."
The "HOT TO GO" singer says that the organization has already raised over $400,000 through her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Pop-Up Shows, which toured across the country from September 20 through October 11. That money will go to organizations that are looking to support trans youth communities. These include The Ali Forney Center and The LGBT Center in New York, Trans Wellness Center and TransLatin@ Coalition in Los Angeles, and The GLO Center and The Center Project in Missouri.
"I am so excited to announce [The Midwest Princess Project]," Chappell said on Instagram. "Outside of transaction fees to host the donation page and limited costs for my team to effectively manage the project, we have committed to donating every dollar possible [from the Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Pop-Up Shows] to the organizations that need it most."
The Midwest Princess Project is currently taking donations on their website.
