Recently, singer Chappell Roan posted a tribute to the late French pop star Brigitte Bardot after the latter passed away at age 91 on December 28 2025, calling Bardot an inspiration for her song "Red Wine Supernova" (which opens with the line "She was a playboy, Brigitte Bardot").
However, upon learning of the Bardot's history of racist and homophobic remarks from fan backlash, Roan retracted her statement, writing via Instagram it was "very disappointing to learn."
The full message can be read below:

Many of Bardot's homophobic and racist remarks are documented in her 2003 book A Scream in Silence (Un cri dans le silence). Since then, Bardot was convicted in court a total of six times for inciting racial hatred. The deceased French star had also expressed strong anti-immigration, anti-Islam, and nationalist views in the past.
