Chappell Roan and Lucy Dacus covered The Magnetic Fields

This one's extremely cool. Sure, Chappell Roan went into detail about The Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs pinnacle "The Book of Love" being "the greatest song she's ever heard in her entire life" on a podcast all the way back in 2022. But few could've predicted that one of the biggest pop stars in the world would give the late '90s cult classic its due at the height of her fame, a time when almost anything she releases hits the top three on the Hot 100.

Thank Lucy Dacus, fresh off her performance of "Bread and Roses" at Zohran Mamdani's mayoral inauguration, who introduced Roan with "My friend cold FaceTimed me a few days ago and said, ‘Can I come sing with you at the show?'" Said show was Mustafa's Artists for Aid benefit concert series at Los Angeles' Shrine Ballroom on January 10th, hosted by Bella Hadid and Pedro Pascal, for relief efforts in Palestine and Sudan. The lineup of guests was a murderer's row even excluding these two, with Geese, Clairo, Alex G, Blood Orange, and Faye Webster among the featured performers.

But Dacus and especially Roan knocked "The Book of Love" out of the park, which you can watch below. Mustafa posted on Instagram that the event raised $5.5M and called it "a historic win for people being buried at the hands of hells that are subsidised by us" and you can read that post below, too.
