Just over a year on from her multi-BRIT Award and Mercury Prize-nominated debut early twenties, Cat Burns returns today with news of a follow-up. Out October 31 via RCA Records, How to be Human charts the past year of the South Londoner's life and is described as a "comfort album," not just for Burns herself but for anyone else experiencing heartbreak and grief.
Writing on Instagram, Burns explains:
"I went through a real ego death last year after losing my grandad and going through a breakup at the same time. While I was in the storm I knew I wanted to document my experience in song form, to show the reality of how hard it was, but also so I could see if would ever get out of it, because if I’m being honest I really didn’t think I was gonna get through that time of my life. It’s honest, it’s uncomfortable, and it’s really scary for me to release, but that is true art to me. if it doesn’t cost you anything then what’s the point?"

Today's album announcement doesn't come with a tracklist or a new single, but is available to pre-order here. Last week's single "All This Love" and January's "GIRLS!" are confirmed for the record, plus 14 other songs.
This Sunday (August 23), Burns will play All Points East festival in London with headliner RAYE and a packed lineup of supports including FKA twigs (replacing Doechii, who pulled out earlier this week), Jade Thirlwall, Chloe Qisha, Nao, and more. A UK tour is in the works for November – more details to follow.
