Cake quietly announces their first album in 14 years

Looks like Cake is once again going the distance, this time into space. The band premiered their new song “Billionaire in Space” in a video for Texas Public Radio (TPR), and played the song as part of TPR’s live-music series, Live From the Freight Elevator. TPR also reported that, according to an interview with KMUW, an NPR affiliate in Wichita, Kansas, the band is working on a new album that they hope to complete by the end of 2024, and that “Billionaire in Space” might be on it.

This will be the first studio album from the band since their 2011 release, Showroom of Compassion. They released a live album in 2014 titled, Live from the Crystal Palace, and a charity single, “Sinking Ship,” in 2018. According to the KMUW interview, they also expect to release a live album before the end of 2024, although no release date or title has been revealed.
