BTS finally announce return with new album (and tour?)

Elvis was famously drafted into the U.S. Army when he was the most recognizable person in the world. That's the only comparison that really captures what it was like for all seven members of the world's biggest boy band, BTS, to have to complete mandatory military service in South Korea over the last five years at the height of their massive stardom.

Their duty was staggered at different times, allowing the Bangtan Boys to release solo albums and other creative pursuits in between tenures serving their country.

But as a group, they haven't released an album since 2020's Be, and went on official hiatus at the end of 2021.

But that period is officially over, because their fifth album, whose title hasn't been revealed yet, drops March 20th via their label Big Hit Entertainment. They started recording it in the studio last July, saying “we’re approaching the album with the same mindset we had when we first started.”

They also teased even more big news: "We’re also planning a world tour alongside the new album," they said. "We’ll be visiting fans all around the world, so we hope you’re as excited as we are."

Details of that surefire moneymaker are sure to explode virally once they emerge, but that's all to be announced. Still, big news for a young year from just about the biggest group on the planet. God help anyone who gets in their fandom's way.
