Breakup Shoes announce new album 'Standing Still' and share indie self-loathing anthem “Brainwash”

Ricky Adams

Breakup Shoes, the indie rockers hailing from Phoenix, AZ, return with Standing Still, the group’s fourth album, out October 10. The record was produced by fellow indie artist Charlie Brand of early-aughts band Miniature Tigers.

Alongside the announcement, the band has shared the album’s lead single, “Brainwash”. Listen here:

Frontman Nick Zawisa had this to say about the track:

“‘Brainwash’ is a song rooted in self-loathing. Although it’s adorned in upbeat, indie-sleaze-inspired, catchy-pop sounds, at its core it’s about wishing you could erase your memories to take another stab at becoming a ‘better’ version of yourself (whatever that means). Whether it’s ridding yourself of bad habits or certain personality traits we’ve internalized, the lyrics romanticize the idea of beginning again.”
