Bon Iver announces archival series 'VOLUMES', beginning with live compilation

Today, Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) has announced a brand new archival series entitled VOLUMES. This will mark the first series of releases since last year's SABLE, fABLE, which Vernon claims will be the final Bon Iver studio album.

Which brings us to the second part of this news: the announcement of its first entry. Out April 6 via Jagjaguwar, VOLUMES: ONE "SELECTIONS FROM MUSIC CONCERTS 2019-2023 BON IVER 6 PIECE BAND" is the band's first-ever non-studio release, and is made up "10 performances that capture Bon Iver at its wildest, warmest and most muscular whole."

They're commemorating the news with the release of live favorite "Heavenly Father", as performed at Mediolanum in Milan, Italy on November 5, 2022. Check that out below:

This first entry in the series features a live getup consisting of Andrew Fitzpatrick, Jenn Wasner, Justin Vernon, Matthew McCaughan, Michael Lewis, and Sean Carey, all with live engineering from Xandy Whitesel.

According to a press release:

"Recorded between 2019 and 2023, when Bon Iver would perform its last live concert to date, VOLUMES: ONE highlights the music of 2016's 22, A Million and 2019's i,i, complemented by three important pieces. COVID-era hymnal 'P.D.L.I.F.' represents a new period of Bon Iver; a cover of Mahalia Jackson's 'A SATISFIED MIND' harkens back to the early days of DeYarmond Edison, when Vernon embraced his falsetto during private band practice; and now, at long last, 'HEAVENLY FATHER' restores a beloved fan favorite to digital streaming platforms."

The VOLUMES series will be made up of live recordings, demos, unreleased recordings and "other previously unheard material, presenting the many eras and multitudes that make up 'Bon Iver.'"
