A new Blood Orange album is officially on the way. Devonté Hynes released a short video on his Instagram earlier today confirming an upcoming album titled Essex Honey, which will mark his first full-length release since 2018’s Negro Swan.
The LP is set to feature contributions from Liam Benzvi, Tariq Al-Sabir, Zadie Smith, Charlotte Dos Santos, Cæcilie Trier, Caroline Polachek, Tirzah, Mabe Fratti, Mustafa, Brendan Yates, Lorde, Eva Tolkin, Ian Isiah, Daniel Caesar, The Durutti Column, and more.
The post's caption reads simply, “I made an album," with a brief, pensive clip featuring shots of musicians performing on the street, intimate glimpses of home studios, and Hynes himself walking through the streets of Essex. Red captions appear throughout, revealing that the album is “about grief, England, youth, and music.” Watch the full video below.
Fans have been anticipating an album announcement following the release of “The Field” three weeks ago, a headlining tour reveal, and increased activity on Hynes’ social media channels.
Before the new single, Hynes’ most recent work as Blood Orange was 2022's Four Songs EP. Since then, he’s scored films and theater, contributed to Lorde’s upcoming album Virgin, and collaborated with Turnstile on their forthcoming record Never Enough.
While a tracklist and release date for Essex Honey have yet to be announced, stay tuned as more details emerge in the coming weeks.
