Bladee, Yaeji, and Cuco work with artists on new Microsoft AI initiative

Microsoft has rolled out a new initiative called Artifacts, in partnership with TBA Agency, which showcases various projects created with generative technology by a selection of artists. The collaboration features notable teams including Bladee and James Ferraro, Yaeji paired with Andrew Thomas Huang, and Cuco working alongside Paul Trillo and Paul Flores.

One of the projects, "Sanctuary," is a first-person desktop adventure game developed by Bladee and James Ferraro. Ferraro describes it as a "visual poem," players navigate through a deteriorating labyrinth and engage with chatbots functioning as characters within the game.

Yaeji's latest single, "Pondeggi," comes with a music video directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, who has worked with artists such as FKA twigs and BjΓΆrk. The narrative features Yaeji being pursued by a witch in a forest setting, culminating in a transformation into a silkworm. Huang says AI played a role in both the production process and the evolution of the storyline, while Yaeji notes that the sequences involving her transformation were beyond her initial vision.

Cuco’s "A Love Letter to LA" is a short film that brings together Paul Trillo and Paul Flores for a collab. The collaboration involves generative models that reinterpret Flores' original drawings, supplemented by traditional animation techniques executed by a team of artists. The resulting animation is also set to be featured in visuals for Cuco's forthcoming tour.
