Today the founding fathers of metal - Black Sabbath - have announced the reunion of its original lineup for a headline performance at a one-day festival called Back to the Beginning.
Featuring OG members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, the group will take to Villa Park, Birmingham, UK this summer for the single-day fest.
Reuniting for the first time in 20 years, it's fair to say the announcement comes as jaw-dropping news to metal fans all over the world. Happening on Saturday, July 5, the festival is set to have all profits distributed equally to three charities: Cure Parkinsons, Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Acorn Children's Hospice.
Showcased as "The Final Show," Back to the Beginning will see Osbourne play a short solo set before joining Sabbath for the final rodeo.
Speaking about the festival, Osbourne says:
“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
So far, Back to the Beginning is stacked with a mammoth line-up of some of rock's and metal's most illustrious stars, including (but not limited to) Metallica, Slayer, Alice in Chains, and more, in addition to a "supergroup" of musicians, including Billy Corgan, David Draiman, Jonathan Davis, Lzzy Hale, Tom Morello and others.
Tickets officially go on sale at 10am GMT on February 14 here.
