On a recent Instagram Live, Black Midi frontman Geordie Greep said that the British experimental rock band is over before later taking a small step back to say it's merely "indefinitely over."
"No more Black Midi. It's over," is the message Greep initially typed into his Instagram Live, a statement he refined later on in a way that fans may find more palatable, saying "Black Midi was an interesting band which is now indefinitely over. For the foreseeable future."
July 15 was the 2nd anniversary of Black Midi's last studio album Hellfire, an album that continued the band's critical success while pushing their commercial success to new heights, peaking at 22 on the UK Albums chart and 139 on the US Albums chart (their first appearance on the Billboard 200).
Now-deleted tweets from fellow member Cameron Picton in response to Greep's livestream only further push tension into the public spotlight, with Picton writing, "Anyway [I don't give a fuck] doing my own record next week with a great band looking forward to it."
All of this points to a tension between Black Midi members that may result in this "indefinite hiatus" becoming more definitive down the road. At the same time, the spur-of-the-moment energy of these comments could also mean this is an ongoing drama between band members that is resolved at some point before Black Midi comes back together.
