Billy McFarland has put the Fyre brand up for sale

Disgraced Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland has ditched his attempt to get the second festival (if you consider the first iteration much of an event) up and running. Instead, he's putting the whole brand up for sale.

Following a hardly-shocking postponement of Fyre "2", McFarland has decided that he needs to "step back and allow a new team to move forward independently."

"Giving control of the brand to a new group is the most responsible way to follow through on what we set out to do: build a global entertainment brand, host a safe and legendary event, and continue to pay restitution to those who are owed from the first festival," McFarland stated in a press release.

Some of Fyre's intellectual property has already been sold to Shawn Rech, a documentary maker who is looking to use the name for a subscription video-on-demand platform.

McFarland first played with Fyre in 2017, an experience that led to four years of prison time and a demand for $26 million in damages to be paid back. That Bahamian experience was to be followed up by an event in Mexico, which authorities repeatedly branded as nonexistent.
