In unfortunate news, Billy Joel has been forced to cancel all of his upcoming shows, 17 to be exact, across North America and the UK, due to a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).
Joel's team released the following statement:
This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance. Under his doctorβs instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.
According to The Cleveland Clinic, "Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a condition that happens when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside your skull and presses on your brain. This condition is most likely in people over 65. Itβs often treatable and sometimes even reversible."
Joel last played a show on February 22nd in Connecticut, where, nearing the end of the performance, he was seen collapsing on stage. He managed to stand up soon after, finishing the set.
Following this incident, he announced a four-month break from touring due to an unspecified medical condition that would require therapy and treatment. His first show back was supposed to be on July 5th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but has now been canceled.
He told fans:
While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.
