Indie heavy-hitters Big Thief have released “Los Angeles” and “Grandmother”, the third and fourth singles from their upcoming record Double Infinity (out 9/5 via 4AD).
“Grandmother (ft. Laraaji)” is the first song all three members of Big Thief wrote together, and grapples with generational love and pain. To her grandmother, Lenker sings: “ It’s alright, everything that happened, happened / So what’s the use of holding? It’s unfolding / We’re all insane / We are made of love / We are also made of pain.” In the song’s chorus, Lenker concludes, “Gonna turn it all into rock and roll.” Laraaji features on backing vocals and zither.
"Los Angeles" seemingly spells out the current standing of Lenker's relationship with Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek, as they've remained friends and collaborators after ending their marriage in 2018. “I’ll follow you forever / Even without looking / You call we come together,” Lenker sings.
