Big Thief announce brand new album 'Double Infinity', release first single "Incomprehensible"

Beloved indie folk trio Big Thief are back with a brand new album, Double Infinity. Out September 5 via 4AD, the album is the follow-up to their 2022 critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You.

The band has also shared the first taste of the new record with the opening track "Incomprehensible." Listen below:

Double Infinity was recorded last winter at the Power Station in New York City. For three weeks the band would get together and record with a throng of talented musicians: Alena Spanger, Caleb Michel, Hannah Cohen, Jon Nellen, Joshua Crumbly, June McDoom, Laraaji, Mikel Patrick Avery, and Mikey Buishas. The album was engineered, produced, and mixed by longtime Big Thief collaborator, Dom Monks. The crew would play and record for up to nine hours a day, building the songs out of these improvisational sessions.

The new single sees Adrianne Lenker looking toward the future while reflecting on childhood mementos. She sings about the passing of time and accepting that aging is a part of life, sagging skin, grey hairs and all. “Let gravity be my sculptor, let the wind do my hair,” she sings.

Double Infinity will be released digitally and on cassette, CD, and standard black vinyl. Limited green and ‘Sparkle Universe’ vinyl editions.

To celebrate the new album, Big Thief will be embarking on their previously-announced Somersault Slide 360 Tour. Find the "first leg" of dates below.
