Beyoncé’s 'Cowboy Carter' snubbed by 2024 Country Music Awards

The Country Music Association have revealed the nominations for the 2024 Country Music Awards, but Beyoncé’s 2024 record, Cowboy Carter, was noticeably absent from the list, with neither Beyonce nor the record garnering any nominations.

Cowboy Carter was a critical and financial hit upon release, breaking several chart records across 2024. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 list, as well as the American/Folk, Top Album Sales, and Top Country Albums charts, and made Beyoncé the first black woman to have a number one country album. The album also topped the charts internationally, reaching number one in the UK, Germany, Australia, and France.

The record was also celebrated as a landmark in pop culture by media outlets all over the world. Cowboy Carter was credited by British newspaper The Times for making country music mainstream in the UK, when a reader survey found that 60% of responders started listening to country music because of it. Vevo reported a 38% increase in views of country music videos globally, and Nielsen reported a 40% in audience for country music among black listeners age 18-34.

Leading the nominations is Morgan Wallen, who was nominated for seven awards including Entertainer of the Year, followed by Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton with five nominations, and Post Malone and Lainey Wilson with four. Lainey Wilson is nominated for Entertainer of the Year, an award she won last year, along with Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, and Wallen.

Despite also swapping genres and appearing on Cowboy Carter, Post Malone was welcomed by the CMA’s with four nominations for his song, “I Had Some Help” featuring Morgan Wallen, from his new country album, “F-1 Trillion”.

The Country Music Awards began in 1967 and are voted on by the Country Music Association, which consists of executives and members of the country music industry. The 58th CMA awards will be broadcast on ABC on November 20, 2024 at 8pm EST.
