The Beths announce fourth album and share new song "No Joy"

New Zealand power pop group The Beths announced their fourth studio album Straight Line Was a Lie, out August 29. Straight Line Was a Lie is the quartet's first album for the label ANTI-, home to other indie rock favorites like MJ Lenderman, Waxahatchee, and Slow Pulp.

Along with the album announcement, The Beths also shared a new single called "No Joy" and an accompanying music video. Watch below:

The song was inspired by vocalist Elizabeth Stokes's experiences taking SSRIs: "It's about anhedonia, which, paradoxically, was there both in the worst parts of depression, and then also when I was feeling pretty numb on my SSRI,” Stokes says. “It wasn't that I was sad, I was feeling pretty good. It was just that I didn't like the things that I liked. I wasn't getting joy from them. It's very literal."

Straight Line Was A Lie also includes the single "Metal", which came out in April. It's the band's first new album since 2022's phenomenal Expert in a Dying Field.

Starting in September, The Beths will be touring in support of Straight Line Was a Lie, including support from Phoebe Rings, Bret McKenzie, Squirrel Flower, and illuminati hotties. Check out the tour dates and grab tickets below.
