Berlin-based producer, DJ, musical chameleon Avalon Emerson has announced Written In Changes, a follow-up to her 2023 record & the Charm. Emerson has now adopted the "& the Charm" moniker and is releasing the new album under that name. Written Into Changes is out March 20 via Dead Oceans.
Emerson has also dropped "Jupiter and Mars", the album's lead single. You can check out the music video directed by Ben Turok below.
The track was c0o-produced and co-written with former Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij. Emerson says “I loved chasing this song with Rostam almost as much as our two little dogs loved chasing each other around the studio.”
Emerson provided some insight into the thought process that went behind recording the new record:
“For the first album, the songs were pretty soft and kind of bedroomy, and playing them on a big kind of festival stage was a learning experience. Coming back into the studio for a second round, it was important to think about the dynamics and energy of what we were making and how they might be performed in the future.”
The DJ explains that "& the Charm" is a collaborative entity as opposed to a band. The Charm refers to the people who contribute to each of Emerson's works. Working alongside Emerson and Batmanglij are Keivon Mehdi Hobeheidar, Jay Flew, as well as Emerson's own wife, Hunter Lombard.
