It seems the long wait is finally coming to a close. Last Night, A$AP Rocky posted to social media an important update to the release of his highly anticipated album, Don't Be Dumb, a project that fans have been wanting for the past seven years. This time, the rapper revealed the artwork, containing the album's title in bold lettering, with drawings by film director and visual artist Tim Burton centered around it.
On Instagram, Rocky referred to Don't Be Dumb as a movie and even cites Burton as the main brain behind the art direction for the project. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Rocky mentions that he ended up playing the album in full for Tim Burton sometime last year and it was received very positively. On the new version of the album, Rocky teases that some of the tracks ended up being scored by Burton's longtime musical collaborator, Danny Elfman.
Since the release of 2017's Testing, Rocky has been keeping himself busy in private, working on the highly anticipated follow-up in the background. The album name was revealed in 2022, although the official rollout for the project didn't fully kick in until summer 2024. During that time, he released two singles – "Highjack" and "Taylor Swif" – the former containing a surprise feature from Jessica Pratt. Rocky has also gotten serious about his acting career, starring in films like Spike Lee's newest feature, Highest 2 Lowest, and Mary Bronstein's If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.
As of now, Don't Be Dumb is slated for release on January 16th, with the tracklist yet to be revealed. Pre-save the album here.
