A$AP Rocky’s long-awaited (and long-delayed) fourth album, Don’t Be Dumb, is right around the corner. Ten days ahead of its release on January 16 via A$AP Worldwide/RCA Records, the Harlem native has released the lead single, “Punk Rocky”.
Despite its title, the new cut feels very reminiscent of his 2018 song “Sundress”, a psychedelic and spatial rock experience. It is also the first taste from the upcoming album, meaning tracks like the Jessica Pratt-assisted “Highjack” and “pray4dagang” are most likely not on the final track list.
There’s an accompanying video co-directed by Rocky, Folkert Verdoorn, and Simon Becks, starring Winona Ryder, Thundercat, and Danny Elfman (who also has musical contributions on the rapper’s album).
You can watch it below:
The chaotic video features, per a press release, “five out of six of his ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ alter egos to life: Rocky portraying GR1M, Tommy Revenge as RUGAHAND, Thoto as BABUSHKA BOI, the Williams twins as SHIRTHEAD, and DUMMY appearing alongside them.” These characters appear on the album’s artwork, which features drawings from filmmaker Tim Burton.

Production and writing for the song are credited to Rocky, Cristoforo Donadi (aka Ghost), Zach Fogarty, Adam King Feeney, and Ging (fka Frank Dukes).
