Anoushka Shankar announces new record 'Chapter III: We Return To Light'

Grammy nominated sitarist and composer Anoushka Shankar has announced a new album. Chapter III: We Return To Light, out March 14 via Nils Frahm's LEITER label, is the third and final installment of a trilogy started back in 2023 with Chapter I: Forever, For Now. The second installment, Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn, was released in spring of 2024, and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album.

Shankar has also released "Hiraeth", the first single of this final entry in the series. Listen to it below:

Shankar started this trilogy of "mini-albums" to honor "he ever-shifting nature of her experience on earth through, each seeking to capture singular, fleeting moments in time with an act of trust: choosing new collaborators and walking into the recording studio with no more than an initial creative impulse," according to a press release.

Ch. 1 was produced by Grammy-winning singer and composer Arooj Aftab, while Ch. 2 was produced Peter Raeburn. This final chapter was produced by Sarathy Korwar and co-produced by Saloni Thakkar. Its music was developed, written, and performed with Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, with additional work from Nina Harris and Pirashanna Thevarajah.

Shankar is, of course, the daughter of legendary sitar player Pandit Ravi Shanka, and is the half-sister of singer Norah Jones. Shankar and Jones collaborated on Shankar's album Traces of You back in 2013.

Additionally, Shankar will be heading out on tour in support of We Return to Light, with dates taking her across the US in March.
